I applied for the internship opportunity at Sunderlin Behavioral Interventions through the Boise State WorkU Program. When I received the news that I had gotten the internship, I was ecstatic but also very nervous due to the fact that I had never had an opportunity like this before. However, the nervous energy instantly disappeared after my initial meeting with Yrenka. I was immediately at ease because of her warm and welcoming demeanor. She expressed that she wanted me to succeed and was there to help in any way she could. I was eager to absorb as much as I could during my internship in order to learn more about potential career options in the future.
During my internship experience, I was able to see how deeply all of the staff cared for the clients in the clinic. The staff truly wanted what was best for their clients and wanted them to learn sustainable life skills that will help them succeed throughout their lives. I am grateful for the opportunity I had to shadow the staff and see this deep sense of care first-hand. Additionally, I had the opportunity to obtain Registered Behavior Technician Certification which could be applied to what I had seen in the clinic. I also had the chance to work closely with another intern, Kaitlyn, and set up engaging and fun activities together for the clients. This was a fulfilling experience because I was able to provide activities that the clients would enjoy while still gaining valuable experience.
While my time at Sunderlin Behavioral Interventions has come to a close, I am grateful for all of the opportunities I was given and knowledge I have gained as a result of this internship. I am eternally grateful for how welcoming the staff was from my first day to my last day in the clinic, and especially to Yrenka for how helpful she was throughout my entire internship. I can now take things that I have learned and apply them to multiple different areas of my life and hopefully to a future career in the field of psychology.
